The end of the Shattered Sea Trilogy.
What can I say? Did the end of the series come to a satisfying conclusion? Yes. Was their death, mayhem, betrayal, and twists to the very end? Of course, this is Joe Abercrombie that I was reading. Who could expect anything less?
Half a War gives you what you would expect after reading Half a King and Half the World. A new set of young characters: Living, Loving, Fighting, and Growing through the conclusion of the events put into place all the way in Half a King.
The action is intense; the characters are as real as they get. This book is not the bloody Grim Dark that our Lord Grim Dark can be known for. Half a War and the whole trilogy itself is an example of Dark, less bloody writing that still has the depth of story even though the characters themselves are younger than probably most of his audience.
Abercrombie never misses a step with this book. Characters you love will die, some you love will live. Others that you hate with passion will live, though some you want to claw your very hands into will find their demise before the end.
A great series for both teenagers and adults to read. Couldn’t recommend any more than I already do.
